How to Care for Your Leather Work Boots

A good pair of leather work boots is an investment — and like any investment, they reward proper care. Follow these steps to keep your Liberty Footwear boots performing at their best for years to come.

Clean After Every Use

Remove dirt and debris with a stiff brush before it has a chance to dry and damage the leather. For tougher grime, a damp cloth works well. Never soak leather boots in water.

Condition the Leather Regularly

Leather needs moisture to stay supple and crack-resistant. Apply a quality leather conditioner every 4–6 weeks, or more often if you work in dry conditions. Pay extra attention to flex points like the toe box and ankle area.

Dry Properly

Never dry boots near direct heat sources — a radiator or campfire will dry out and crack leather quickly. Remove insoles and allow boots to air dry at room temperature. Cedar boot trees help maintain shape and absorb moisture.

Apply Waterproofing Treatment

Even on our water-resistant models, a regular waterproofing treatment adds an extra layer of protection. Apply after conditioning, and reapply whenever you notice water no longer beading on the surface.

Resole When Needed

The upper of a Liberty Footwear boot is built to outlast several outsoles. When traction wears down, a quality cobbler can resole your boots — a far better value than buying new.
